Halyburton Park Apiary Ceremony

We’re thrilled to announce our ribbon cutting ceremony at Halyburton Park Apiary was a success! The ceremony was to display our new public apiary to the community. An apiary is an enclosed ‘bee park’ that is maintained by a beekeeper. After almost a decade of trying to open a public apiary, the project is completed for the community and bees alike to enjoy!

The pallets were built by Eagle Scout candidates and painted by a local artist. Our association is proud of our combined efforts with New Hanover County to make this dream a reality. We’re excited to continue this partnership to expand the bee sanctuary to make it more kid-friendly. This is a great opportunity to educate the public about beekeeping. We love sharing our passion with others while showcasing how important bees are for the environment!

We’ve been receiving lots of buzz in the community for this exciting project! WECT and WWAY News both recognized our achievements on their newscasts and websites. Our member and beekeeper, Andrea Dillon said “So now I pass on what’s been so freely given to me, to other people. That’s how we are going to keep this going, because without bees, we are going to ‘be’ in some trouble.” This is a huge accomplishment for our organization and it would not have been possible without our incredible members. Thank you for your support and let’s continue to make a difference!
