Bees, Splits, and a Taste of Honey
Our February guest speaker, Dana Stahlman, kept everyone engaged with a wide range of bee-related topics. From the idea of $1,000 queens to the impact of reduced foraging areas on our hives, his presentation was packed with insights for beekeepers at every level.
Dana also walked us through the differences between older winter bees and the fuzzy new bees we’ll soon be seeing, and shared his double screen board method for making splits. He even brought along some of his handcrafted bee boxes and tools, giving members a closer look at his approach.
One of the highlights of the evening was sampling his collection of honeys. From elderberry and tupelo to orange blossom and sourwood, each variety had its own distinct flavor—and it was a hit with everyone.
Dana’s work has been featured in The American Bee Journal and Bee Culture Magazine. He also offers a free newsletter—subscribe by emailing him at stahlmanapiaries@aol.com.
